The reason why I chose the maiden to appear out of the door is because unlike the princess's father, she is rather a person who does not like violence. Why did the princess save him? Well since she loved that man and the man loves her, why should he be killed? Or in my point of view the princess could have paid the maiden a large sum of money to escape to another location, the man should not mind that. The ending is joyful as the man and the princess could finally be together.........

I will have to agree with you that the princess saved the man as she did not like violence because the princess is a girl and we know that most girls do not like violence. It is also possible that the princess would bribe the maiden to escape to another location.
