Reflections for Term 2

Until this day, I have learned much from the lessons. This term was one of the most interesting terms I had ever had. Since young I always had a liking for poems, and since this term is about poems and literature, I had fun. Our LA teacher introduced a special technique "Pass the Ball", whereby the teacher asks a question and from there a student has to answer it. If he does not know the answer he may pass it on to anyone. This have increased my confidence in speaking up in class and asking questions. From this term I have learned important points. I hope that next term is a great term to show my true colours...

Bless,
Ryan Lau

Poem attempt (The Arrival of The Flame)

Right after assembly,
was the long awaited event,
lining up on both sides of the road,
chit-chatting as the teachers got us ready,
stand up! sit down! was all the things we could here,
bored? Just walk anywhere you want,
even disturbing your friends,
jabbing twigs and throwing dried crisp leaves at them,
WHERE IS THE TORCH? Boredom started to engulf us,
starring at the gantry gate over and over and over,
teachers and staffs strolled up and down the path,
ensuring that everything is, you know.........

Hey! Look! The outstanding car came through the path,
Since the start we wondered, who is this G.O.H.?
The car came to a halt and a guy in the YOG outfit emerged from the car,
The principal came to the G.O.H. and shook hands and exchanged friendly hugs,
Not long after that, here comes a blue, YOG logo-ed bus,
The doors opens and officials came out one by one, slowly and steady,
Ohhhh! Lookie! The majestic YOG flame is actually here!
The officials came through the road in a arrow-headed order with the flame in that "life-sustaining" container,
Celebrations began with a dragon dance, the principal and the G.O.H. watched as time faded away,
People began to surround the performance,
No Fair! Once visible performance is now behind a wall of seniors......

Everything is followed by the normal speech and on and on,
The torch is being lit,
Some of us witnessed it while some, didn't care...
The relay begun and we were dismissed,
That was the only time which we were closest to the flame itself.....

This poem is freely written by me....

Steps I had followed for analysis of a poem

1. Forget what the poem may or may not mean, or what it may be about.

2. Look at just the title and WRITE DOWN about half a dozen things that it suggests to you. Give literal meanings as well as other associations.

3. Read the poem once quickly, and then several times more slowly. Try to hear the poem aloud in your head. DO NOT recite the poem aloud in class; if you must hear it aloud, read it quietly to yourself.

4. WRITE DOWN a list of all those things in the poem that force their attention on you or which catch your interest for any particular reason. This includes unusual/odd/striking words, rhymes, or repetitions/patterns/contrasts, etc.

5. WRITE DOWN any features of figurative language in the poem: metaphors, similes, personification, alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, symbolism, etc.

6. WRITE DOWN groups of words that may be thematically similar (for example, that all similes make reference to animals/death/plants, etc., or all the first words of lines are conjunction words, etc.). Don't worry about whether your groups of words seem silly or improbable; look at what you have observed and ask yourself: what is its significance?

7. Look at your lists, notes, and groups. Do you see any pattern taking shape? If so, WRITE DOWN this pattern.

8. Read the poem again and WRITE DOWN your intelligent guesses of what the poem may mean.

9. Answer the following questions:
a) Who is "speaking" in the poem? Is it the POET or a PERSONA?
b) Who is the poem "spoken" to? In other words, who is the audience for this poem? Is it to a particular person, to the poet himself (reflective) or to the public in general?
c) What is the speaker's attitude to this audience? Is it angry, sincere, joking, teasing, etc.?
d) What is the POET's attitude to this audience? (This may be different from the speaker.)
e) Why is the poem organized in the way that it is?
f) What is the EFFECT of all the things you have written down in Steps 2-8?

10. WRITE DOWN your guess at the poet's intent: what do you think the poet hoped to accomplish in writing this poem?

This is very helpful, if you follow these steps you just might become a poet yourself...

Words that we may not know:
-sepia> photos with brownish tin
-Kodachrome>a type of film

And here are they:
-Photos
-Camera
-Photo of scenery
-Land area
-Special occation
- Family people

List of all the things which force their attention on me or which catches my interest for one reason or another after reading this poem.......
The list/words are:
-smile
-never
-forever
-ever
-permanent
-just

Fugurative Language used in this poem:
(Alliteration) "and smile and smile and smile" and "smooth sand......sea......smile......smile....smile...sun shines...sepia.....sandboys......sandgirls.......stop smiling.....sea-shore"

Group of words that may be thematically similar (for example, that all similes make reference to animals/death/plants, etc., or all the first words of lines are conjunction words, etc.):
-"pleasure-boat"
-"gingham pinafores"
-"smiling through"

The poem is formal so there is no rythm or poems.....

Guessing the meaning:
>The poem is written to send a message to people to appreciate photos as holds the memories that you cherrish the most. As well as telling people to take care of the photos, they are your path through memory lane.

9)
a)Poet
b)Public in general

The sounds of poetry

1) I heard the cats meowing in the darkness of the night, giving me the creeps before realise it was them. Tick, tick, tick, as they walked along the railings of the train station, screech, screech, screech, as the cats scratched the ground to sharpen their claws. The only sound I hear now is the purring of my dear cat, purrrrrr... Sweesh, I stroke my cat... Hoooohhh, my cat gave a yawn and boom, came crashing to its side, sleeping soundly as can be...

2) Woot woot.. the owl went, breaking the silence of the night. tick tock tick tock.. The grandfather clock seemed to sway tirelessly.. The night was still.. the air was dry.. but everything else was too eerily silence, as if the night was waiting for something or someone.. Suddenly, SCREECH! Bang! Meeeeow! Clash..! Zing! What was that?!! Sounded like the neighbour's cat being chashed away.. or.. maybe, frightened away by someone.. or something? Creeeekkk.. the front door inches.......

Life Metaphor 2

Life is like an antique book, thick, dusty, yellowish pages and fading pictures. Flipping through the old book will reveal adventures of a writer in his life, from beginning to end. Noticing dog-eared pages and scribbling on several pages, reminds you of... Blow gently on the book and dust will float in the air. Looking at the last page signifies the grand ending. As you will know...Every ending is a beginning and every beginning is an ending...

Life Metaphor

1)Life is a holy cemetery, it is filled with wandering lost souls, tombstones, marking the remains of once a living body, withstanding rain and sunlight. Funerals celebrate the depature of loved ones, people moaning, crying, and praying, all was not special but something extraordinary. As a new tombstone stands, a new visitor has arrived...

2)Life is a christmas tree, everlasting green leaves, broad in its bottom to sharp at its end, decorated beautifully with intricate miniature Santa Clauses at christmastime. Its sharp leaves falls when disturbed, it sways as the breeze comes by, and utmost important of all the shiny delicate star stands proudly at the highest point, shining light whenever the sun is present...

3)Life is a river, often raging from mountain tops, cutting through rocks and lands, shaping and changing it's course along the way. But mellows as it reaches flat land before it ends with the meeting of the sea, always evolving, always flowing, always ends.

Sound Poem

I heard the sheep bleating beyond the hill.
I heard the wolves howling in the dark dark night.
I heard the cats meowing in the dark alley.
I heard dogs barking loudly.
I heard sparrows chirping in the trees.
I heard frogs croaking in the pond.
I heard ducks quaking in the bushes.
I heard the oxen bellowing across the land.
I heard bees buzzing around the flowers.
I heard whales singing as they called out.
I heard donkeys braying in the barnyard.
I heard mice squeaking on the floor.
I heard owls hooting in the darkness.

Paul the Octopus

With reference to his/its biography....

Paul the Octopus (hatched January 2008) is a common octopus living in a tank at a Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany, who is used as an animal oracle to predict the results of football matches, usually international matches in which Germany is playing. He came to worldwide attention with his accurate predictions in the 2010 World Cup.

During a divination, Paul is presented with two boxes containing food, each marked with the flag of a national football team in an upcoming match. He chose the box with the flag of the winning team in several of Germany's six Euro 2008 matches, and in all seven of their matches in the 2010 World Cup—with Germany's third place playoff win over Uruguay on 10 July, his success rate rose to 85 percent, with 11 out of 13 matches correctly predicted. He has predicted a win for Spain against the Netherlands in the World Cup final on 11 July by eating the mussel in the box with the Spanish flag on it.

Life of the octopus

Paul was hatched from an egg at the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth, England, then moved to a tank at one of the chain's centres in Oberhausen, Germany. His name derives from the title of a poem by the German children's writer Boy Lornsen: Der Tintenfisch Paul Oktopus.

According to Sea Life's entertainment director, Daniel Fey, Paul demonstrated intelligence early in life:

There was something about the way he looked at our visitors when they came close to the tank. It was so unusual, so we tried to find out what his special talents were. The animal rights organisation PETA commented that octopuses are some of the most intelligent of invertebrates, with complex thought processes, long, and short-term memories, and different personalities. They can use tools, learn through observation, and are particularly sensitive to pain, according to the group. They say it would be cruel to keep Paul in permanent confinement. Sea Life Centres responded that it would be dangerous to release him, because he was born in captivity, and is not accustomed to finding food for himself.

The octopus's amazing prediction....

There are always people who want to eat our octopus but he is not shy and we are here to protect him as well. He will survive.
—Oliver Walenciak (Paul's keeper)
Paul correctly predicted the outcome of the semi-final, by choosing the food in the box marked with the Spanish flag. German supporters drew hope from his incorrect choice for the Germany versus Spain match in the UEFA Euro 2008 but were disappointed. The prediction led to death threats as German fans called for Paul to be cooked and eaten. In response, Spanish prime minister Jose Zapatero jokingly offered to send Paul official state protection, and the Industry Minister Miguel Sebastian called for Paul to be given safe haven in Spain.

Poem (Old School Days)

Some parts need to be Sinagporean's slang in order to get the reader's attention

The sky is vast and crystal blue,
The flags are raising, be silent!
The flags were like waves of the ocean,
Way above the dusty wooden cross,
Don't laugh, Don't whisper,
Pricipals give a speech, Don't fred,
People tap your back, don't even think about it!
Self-discipline is crucial, sigh...

keeping our shoes white, never mind!
Getting to our class, that's our goal,
Chit-Chat as we walked,
Thumping of footsteps as we followed,
Oh my! Oh my! Get into the class quickly!
The teacher is coming!
Behave yourselves, shhhhh!

Canteen is like a paradise,
It is a place for discussing answers, gossiping, joking, whatever you can think of!
What we think of it, you already know!
Food here is delicious,
It is cheap and worth it,
Special days, special food!

One time, one achievement,
Walking on stage full of pride,
What waits before me is a prize,
A prize that I will receive with honour,
Bow before the crowd,
Get of the stage which I will rarely get on.

After school, that's one thing,
Going home, that's another thing,
Seeing people vandalising railings, very common,
Seeing young ones waiting,
Tapping my feet as I wait,
The sun shone rentlessly on my back,
Here comes my ride,
Home Sweet Home!

There is another sky by Emily Dickinson

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields -
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!

Q1.
How is figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language.

-The words "come " and "my brother" are hyperbole(in other words exaggerating) figurative language. The phrase(s) " its unfading flowers" is a metaphor figurative language. The poet chose to use these languages as she wants to further describe the appearance of the forest and make as feel that we are in the poem.

The poem I have chosen describes the green forest. The choice of words a good, for example: unfading and serene. I like this poem as the words are not too bombastic but just right and able to understand it. The poem goes in a smooth manner like without stopping here and there. The part that I like is the part when she says "Into my garden come!", this makes my feel invited to enter and the word "come" is a hyperbole figurative language which means exaggerating. The part where she exaggerates more is the description of the forest, e.g. "where no frost has ever seen".

Urbanisation lesson

Urbanisation may seem amazing in its ways , but there is always a bad side of it.

Q1(Soil effects)

-Fertilisers left in the soil for a long time after use, will become toxic, killing plants being plant in it, therefore nothing can grow in it/ Infertile land

(Air effects)
-Air pollution due to deadly chemicals being pumped into the air/Can be harmful to humans/(If breathed in excessively)Can cause illnesses such as Asthma, lung cancer, suffocation, and apart from that low visibility.

(Water effects)
-Toxic waste is being discharged into the sea/Water pollution/Marine life will be killed, therefore causing the amount of food, in this case, fish, to decrease.

Q2,

Social effects on villagers
- Forced to quit their jobs/ Overcrowding/ Pollution harmful to health/ Will have to migrate to other places to find jobs

Social effects on Bombayites
-Bombay will be over-populated which will lead to overcrowding/ The number of poor citizens will increase/ There will be more less paid jobs because of over-population

Q3(light pollution)
-When more light is generated, the amount of electricity consumed will be greater, which will result in higher bills/payings for the citizens.

The village by the Sea (Reflection

In my opinion, Hari, the main character of the book, "Village by The Sea", is a very successful person. Overcoming obstacles, taking risks, goes on an adventure to work and at the same time support his family. Well, urbanisation is taking place and Hari needs to be independent and look for a job. I think it is a good think that Hari went to Bombay as it is beneficial for him. Being the only one in his family who is still able to work when his parents are down. Beneficial, in a way that he meeds to take up the responsiblility to live on his own, but with the help of other friends of course. Unlike students I see nowadays, Hari is much more responsible, independent that he took the risk to sneak into one of boats in order to travel to Bombay where he will seek his chance to find jobs. In return, money is earned to support the family.

From what I heard, the story "Village by The Sea" is actually a true story! It is just that the author changed the name of the characters. It is like WOW! a boy the age of us is able to go through all that, it is just an amazing feat to overcome. I am sure out there, somewhere, there is someone who is just like Hari.

Effects of Toddy (Visual/Spatial)

-Familial
When a person drinks to much of Toddy, he/she may be under duress and therefore unable to think properly. So, this is a problem to the family as if he/she is a drunkard the family will be hit badly. As a result of being under duress, he/she may throw tantrum at the victims which is his family members, therefore there would be chaos.

-Societal
In the future, when rumour will start to spread, people will recognise he/she as a drunkard and start to gossip. The "news" will continue to spread and this may be a problem for the drunkard as chances of finding a job will be lesser, therefore the drunkard may not have career in the future society.

-Physiol
Drinking too much toddy may lead to liver failure as it is filled with too much alchohol which is poisonous to the body. In addittion, the person will throw up more often

Music that synchronises with first 5 chapters(a)

I have chosen this musical video to suit the first five chapters of the book "Village by the sea". Well you may be wondering why I chose this musical video for the reason mentioned above. If you had listened to this you may feel a relaxation feeling, but I you observe very carefully and imagine what is the video trying to tell you is that why should the people of Thul want factories to be built around their land and the peace would be ruined. People would concentrated more on business than their culture.

Journal entry of Hari

This is a journal entry of Hari's point of view...
Dear diary,
Who does he thing he is? Trying to make me desperate! Mum is very sick, I just wished that one day he would change his attitude. Now I am on my on to support my family including my siblings Bela and Kamal, thank goodness Lila is here to help. Look, even Lila herself had given up school so that she could stay at home to cook, wash and look after others. I wish Father would just stop drinking toddy and turn over a new leave. There is other things better to do than drinking and lay around everyday, he can help by earning some money at least. I even heard that factories were going to be built in Thul, which means that more opportunities will be available. I really hope they will get on and over with this so that I will be able to work and support my family.

Father is pray that you will start a new...
Sincerely,
Hari

Naturalistic T2WK4

The preparation of Chapati and Jalebi:

-Jabeli

Ingredients: -2 cups of self-raising flour
-1/2 tsp baking powder
-1 cup yogurt
-vegetable/canola/sunflower cooking oil for deep frying
-1 cup of sugar
-few strands saffron
-1/4 tsp cardamom powder
-2 drops of orange food colour
-2 tbsp of rose water.
Steps for Jalebi

-Mix the flour, baking powder and and yogurt into the batter and keep the mixture aside for 24hours to ferment.
-After which, pour batter into a ketchup dispensing bottle.
-In order to make the sugar syrup, melt the sugar with rose syrup and boil to get the for one thread consistency.
-To check for thread consistency, carefully dip the tip of your finger into the syrup, touch your finger and thumb together and gently teased apart.
-There you have it the syrup is done.
-Turn off fire and add the saffron strands and cardamon and stir well. Heat the oil in deep wok-like dish.
-To test for the right temperature, drop a small amount of batter into the oil.
-If it sizzles and rises to the top of the oil, the oil is not hot enough. -
Keep the flame at medium at all time to ensure all round cooking of the jabelis.
-Then, hold the ketchup dispenser over the hot oil and squeeze the batter into the oil into a wiggly, randomly coiled circle.
-After that squeeze out several at a time.
-Fry it until it is light golden and then remove and put directly into sugar syrup.
-Allow it to soak for 2-3mins and then remove. Finally serve it warm.

-Chapati

ingredients:-6 cups sifted whole wheat pastry flour
-2 tsp salt
-6 tbsp vegetable oil
-1-3/4 cups of warm water plus more needed
-1 cup melted ghee or clarified butter.
Summarised steps

In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour and salt. Sprinkle in the oil and rub it into the flour with your hands. Make a well in the center of the flour, pour in the water, and mix together by hand until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Turn out onto a lightly oiled surface and knead for 15mins. Clean out the mixing bowl, butter it lightly, and return the dough to the bowl. Cover the bowl with a plastic warp or a damp dish towel and let the dough rest for 2 hours.

Divide the dough into 36 pieces, then work with only 3 pieces at a time-the chapatis should not dry out before cooking. With lightly floured hands, rolled each piece into a ball, flattened slightly, and place on a lightly floured surface. Roll out the dough into evenly flat 6" rounds. Roll out two more chapatis, then begin to cook.

Heat a cast-iron griddle over medium-high heat, then place a chapati over the griddle and cook for 30 sec. Then flip it again. The chapati should heat up and become freckled. When this happens, remove it from the griddle to a towel-lined basket, brush lighly with ghee or clarified butter, cover to keep warm. Stack the breads on top of each other. When the first three are done, reduce the heat under the griddle and roll out the next 3 chapatis; then turn up the heat and cook them. Continue rolling and cooking until the dough is gone.

Then if possible, allow two people for chapati making-one to roll and one to cook the chapatis. They should be the last thing to prepare for the Indian meal so that they can be served hot. Make 24-36 bread.

The differeneces between chapati and roti prata:

The difference between chapati and roti prata is that chapati is made from wheat grain while roti prata is made from whole-wheat flour.Roti prata is often eaten with mutton or fish curry while chapati is filled with wheat grain. In referrence to their origin, Roti prata belongs to a group of breads which are indegineous to india and is originated from Southern India, while Chapati is originated from South Asia and East Africa.

The difference between Jalebi and you tiao:

In referrence to their origin, you tiao is originated from China while Jalebi is originated from Middle East and North Africa. You tiao is often eaten with congee otherwise known as porridge while Jalebi is eaten just itself alone.Jalebi is served warm or cold, has a chewy texture with a sugary outter coating while is a golden-brown, long, deep fried strip of dough.

Types of ironies

The word "irony" can be confusing if you do not understand the meaning, some of you might check the dictionary while others might just ignore it. Here is the meaning of the word "irony"
by dictionary definition: Incoruguilty between what might be expected to happen an what actually occurrs. E.g. "The language preservation group helps to prevent certain languages to
face extinction, but they will only go if invited."
However there are more different types of ironies.....Here are some of them...
-Tragic irony
Tragic irony is a special catergory of dramatic irony. In this type of irony, the words and action contradicts to a real situation which the spectators fully realises.
-Verbal irony
Verbal irony is distinguished from situational irony and dramatic irony in that it is produced by the speakers.
-Dramatic irony
Dramatic irony is the device of giving the spectator an item of information that at least one of the characters in the narrative is unaware of(at least consciously), thus placing the spectator a step ahead of at least one of the characters.

The reason of the ending(2 posts back)

The reason why I chose the maiden to appear out of the door is because unlike the princess's father, she is rather a person who does not like violence. Why did the princess save him? Well since she loved that man and the man loves her, why should he be killed? Or in my point of view the princess could have paid the maiden a large sum of money to escape to another location, the man should not mind that. The ending is joyful as the man and the princess could finally be together.........

Research on breeding lambs

Sheep farming is primarily based on raising lambs for meat, or raising sheep for wool. Sheep may also be raised for milk. Some farmers are specialised in breeding seep to sell to others.
Today I will be concertrating on breeding lamb as food..........
Let's see the methods>>>
-Animal care
Sheep are kept in pens, paddocks or in barns. In cold seasons, the lambs may need shelter if they are freshly shorn as they are vulnerable in these condition. Farmers also work with nutritionist and vertinarians to keep the sheep healthy. Newborn lambs are vaccinated. During the weaning period, lambs are vulnerable to deadly diseases. Sheep feed on grains, hay and grasses. Sheep are comfortable in moderate temperature, sometimes fans may be needed in barns.

-Lifecycle
Ewe's are pregnant for five months before giving birth and may have up to 3 lambs. Lambs are weaned at three months. Sheep groww fully at 2 months and can weigh up to 125kg.

-the lamb in "The Lamb to The Slaughter"
The lamb in this short story was different compared to today's lamb which is wrapped in plastic.
The lamb in the story was huge and it is the entire leg of the slaughtered lamb. Guessing, it can be up to 4-6kg.Today's lamb are partially cut, and less bones aee included.

The Lady or The Tiger?(the ending)

The crowd was waving their arms wildly. "GO FOR THE RIGHT! NO GO FOR THE LEFT!" they shouted like hysterically. The atmosphere was full of anxiety. "Quiet! Let the man decide his own fate! Continue....", the barbaric king stood up and gave a growl. It was followed by drum rolls and trumpets sounds. As the crowd was paying close attention to the man, he was actually looking up at the princess.

"Is she telling me to choose the right door? There is only one way to find out! I must open the door she that she is waving to.......But will she save me? Or will she send me to my death?

The young man bravely trusted his instinct. The door was chosen, jeering and cheering came from the crowd. "Boooooo....!" and at the same time "yahhhhh.....!". His fate was chosen, but the only question is, "What is in there?".

The door is slowly opened. All was quiet for a moment, as though everyone was praying for his fate; knowing that it will be such a waste of a handsome man to be devoured by the tiger right before their very eyes, if that is what he has chosen. The man automatically raised both of his arms, half covering his face as he was expecting the tiger to pounce on him and eat him alive, and he has made up his mind to give it his best fight as if that action will save him but there was not a single roar at all!

The crowd was silent as if everyone has stopped breathing. The man stared at the ground and gradually lifted up his head. He saw two most beautiful, slender legs stepping out towards him. Without hesitation the man looked straight, could not quite believe his what he has done. "Yeah.....!" Spectators who bid that he would survive cheered and exchanged hugs with each other. For out in front of them, is the maiden. A joyous mood surrounded the couple as a wedding will take place immediately.

The man took a deep breath and gave a sigh of relief. The king was furious, walked away and said in a deep voice,"He is lucky but until the next time, I will show no mercy......!"

With a heavy heart, the princess stood up and walked away without looking at her lover.

The man was married on the spot to the maiden.

A few days later, the same man reported of the disappearance of his wife. Soon rumour spreaded throughout the kingdom....... She had been kipnapped and murdered. The truth, unknown to all, lies with the semi-barbaric princess. The man was overjoyed at not having to be with someone whom he doesn't love, but sad at the same time, for she has done no wrong.

He could now be with his princess. The reason why the man was still alive and breathing is the princess.

Experience of beach cleaning at Sembawang beach

Yesterday(20/2/10) was a fun and enjoyable day. My classmates and I had to work in pairs to clean the beach. The beach was not as dirty as we had thought..... However there were still rubbish on the sand. Materials like glass and metals take a very very long time to break down. Imagine a world full of rubbish, wouldn't it be unpleasent.... In addition, global warming is occurring and sea level is rising. Animals may not be able to adapt to the new environment and may face extinction. Just as I said the beach was littered, there were broken glass, plastic bags,
straws and even died aquatic animals like crabs and fishes. We also had a competition of who can collect the most amount of rubbish. However, the other class foung a huge car tyre!!! But we had fun....! Our dirty hands is an achievement/product of a mighty battle...

Denotation and connotation(two meanings of the same)

Sometimes we see words of the same meaning, for e.g.:The word "thrifty and stingy", they both mean that the person is careful with money. This is called denotation as the meaning of the words is the definition of the dictionary.
However the meaning of these words are not the same depending on the context.
For eg.:The man is stingy.(The word stingy indicates that the man is selfish and does want to share his money.)
:The man is thrifty.(The word stingy in this context mean that the man is careful with his money and likes to share.
In other words this is called connotation
When handling words of the same meaning we must be careful......

Senory details(very important)

Senory details what are they? Well, it consists of the sense of sight, smell, taste and touch. It is very important as it helps to make the description of the passage more effective. For e.g......
-The floor is dirty. What can we conclude from this? Well, the author is using the sense of sight as he could see that the floor is dirty.
-The staircase is smelly. The author is using the sense of smell.
-The food is tasty. The author is obviously using the sense of taste as he/she is eating.
-The wall is smooth. The author is using the sense of touch as he felt the texture of the floor.

The diary of Mrs Maloney, me as her

Diary of Mrs Maloney................

Dear Diary,
This was the most horrible night! I committed a serious crime and I got away with it. It was a close shave! I think this place is haunted by the spirit of my husband and now I do not know what to do. I nearly broke down as I could not keep the truth away from the police. I managed to take away the life of a man I love! I don't know if anybody else could have done what I did... I mean, I am carrying his baby in my womb. How dare he divorce me?!! He knew that I could not take care of the baby and support the family at the same time! The fact that he is going to marry someone else just made me furious and I just.....just could not stop myself. I didn't mean to do it! It just happened.. like in the movies. I had really wanted to make him a good dinner. Oh why didn't he just let me make that dinner???

The truth must be kept away from people not even the child, maybe I can escape to another country whereby no one will find me.......

This is just an awful dream. I wish it would go away tomorrow.

The difference between the show and the story of The Lamb to The Slaughter

The 2 main characters in this story is Mr. and Mrs Maloney. In the end, Mrs Maloney murderred her husband as he was going to divorce her even when she was pregnant. Resulting in, Mrs Maloney to be furrious so she took the lamb(frozen leg)and smashed him in the back of the head.Owwww!......Causing him to die.
In this post I am going to tell the difference between the two visual and written source.
Here
-Mrs Maloney did not rehearse her speech
-the freezer was in the garage instead of the cellar
-The investigators/police took coffee instead of wine
-Mrs Maloney did not sew while waiting for her husband to return from work.
-In the written story she did not mess up the place
-In the show Mr M. told Mrs M. that he wanted to divorce
In the show the police was more specific

My diagnostic test reflection

On my another interesting LA reflection, my class and I had to go to the computer lab to create accounts(I mention in my previous post) and tried the personality test which consists of several multiple-choice questions about our self. I myself answer the question truthfully( it's a MUST)
and viewed my result and realised that I scored best in number smart. You see, the results consist of a number of smartness area. I feel that after this test I realised that I am more close to my friends than I thought. Now I realised that I am best at nature and numbers. It is true that I am a science and maths geek. Have fun,

My LA reflection

On the first few lessons on LA(Language Arts), my class and I learnt quite a lot of information. To start off the message, I will give a short briefing on "Plagiarism" this is a complex word but it is very is to remember the meaning. The meaning of "Plagiarism" copying from a source in the internet which has been copyrighted, and use it as your own. Now this is wrong as this can lead to serious consequences like fine and jail. After learning that we managed to create a Facebook account and of course my blogger account. I feel that blogging can help us to improve in our studies.
Cheers,
